Iris van Herpen - Between The Lines

Between the Lines is the first process film created for Iris van Herpen, offering an intimate look inside the making of her Spring/Summer 2017 Haute Couture collection. Filmed in the Amsterdam atelier and behind the scenes during Haute Couture Week in Paris, the film follows the collection from material experimentation and handcraft to the final runway presentation.

The collection explores the imperfections that exist within systems and structures, both physical and digital. Inspired by the spaces in between, Iris van Herpen developed intricate patterns, optical illusions, and layered forms that challenge perception and reveal new shapes as the body moves.

The film captures the level of experimentation and craftsmanship behind the collection, from early development in the atelier to the intense final days before the Paris presentation. It offers a close view of the processes that define van Herpen’s work: collaboration, innovation, handwork, technology, and a constant search for new forms of expression.

Between the Lines is now featured prominently within Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses, the major travelling retrospective that premiered at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, continued through Queensland, Singapore, and Rotterdam, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York. The exhibition brings together more than 140 haute couture creations, placing van Herpen’s work in dialogue with art, design, science, and the natural world.
